Today, despite many company- or association-driven efforts notably on Environmental Product Declarations, there is no global, overarching, commonly accepted implementation of LCA methods that would allow consistent communication on what “green” means within and across the whole building value chain. Several WBCSD members across the buildings value chain expressed a need for a global platform of businesses and key stakeholders to convene and agree on common implementation guidelines for the consistent application of life cycle information in project procurement and material sourcing decisions. This business solution will not develop new methodologies, but the key objective is to harmonize and, where appropriate, simplify life-cycle assessment (LCA) for buildings and materials, and provide guidance on implementation in order to reduce complexity and mainstream the implementation by business worldwide.
